I’ll Be Home for Christmas

December 7 marks the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and in recognition of this historic event, First Baptist Lafayette will present five performances of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” December 7-11.  This presentation is free and will feature traditional Christmas and World War II era music in an exciting stage production. It is centered on the true meaning of Christmas as experienced by families in December 1941. In addition to the dramatic cast, the church choir, soloists, and orchestra will be a part of the program.

Opelousas Children’s Christmas Parade

The annual Opelousas Children’s Christmas Parade is scheduled for Thursday, December 8, 2016.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church on Union & Main Street, rolls  through downtown Opelousas and ends on Creswell Lane. The annual holiday event will feature colorfully lit Christmas themed floats, high school marching bands, and Santa Claus.

The Port Barre Police Dept. will host Law for Paws Day Dec. 9th benefiting St. Landry Parish Animal Shelter & F.U.R. Both Opelousas & Krotz Springs Police depts. will also participate in the donation drive. a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization(donations tax-deductible)which funds supplies for the shelter not covered by the parish and veterinary care for incoming abused or neglected animals.

Christmas Car Show Event

Courtesy Breaux Bridge will be hosting a Christmas Car Show at their dealership on Saturday, December 10, 2016. The event will begin at 7 A.M. and judging will start at 1 P.M. All proceeds raised from the event will benefit Toys for Tots and Susan G. Komen.

Guests can enter a variety of vehicles into the car show including: Jeeps, Classics, Mustangs, Big Trucks, or Muscle Cars. The entry fee for each guest is $10 + a children’s toy to be donated. Guests can enter to win prizes, enjoy face painting, take pictures with Santa, and more.

The Children’s Art Walk and the Christmas parade will be Saturday, December 10, 2016.  The Children’s Art Walk is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the parade will begin at 6 p.m.  Line-up for the parade begins at 5 p.m.

The deadline to register your golf cart, float or group of walkers is Thursday, December 8, 2016, at 4 p.m.  Registration packets and forms are in the Tax Department of City Hall.
